Building Projects & Renovations Gallery

The various renovation projects each have their special features which are briefly outlined. Clicking the photos enlarges them, and if you mouse over the feature photo you can zoom in to see in better detail some of the craftsmanship that Pete and his team have used when they are building or renovating villas and character homes in Christchurch.

Project: Waterholes Rd, Templeton

An early weatherboard cottage built circa 1870, a major alteration project to demolish existing lean-to's that were not in good shape (the owner's brother David was heard to say "when does the bulldozer arrive?").

Extend by 100m2 to create new living/dining/kitchen/bathroom and laundry.

Design and install new colonial doors and windows throughout, modernise and transform into a quaint home.

Feature: Exposed Beams

Project: Bristol St, Merivale

This building project was a structurally challenging alteration to remove numerous walls and create a huge open plan space downstairs, the trick being to make sure the family living upstairs during the project didn't rapidly come down to meet us!

Steel beams positioned between floors enabled these spaces to be constructed amidst a surrounding of very substantial, very heavy heart rimu timbers. New laundry, kitchen, living, dining, master bedroom and ensuite gave the owners all the space they needed.

Feature: New Exterior Cladding

Project: Harakeke St, Fendalton

A combination of clever design and attention to detail turned this everyday property into one we are very proud of. A small extension together with major internal alterations gave the owners a large open plan living/dining/kitchen, new spacious laundry and service entrance, and tons of storage with new spaces created by removing chimneys.

The 'bell gable' with vent and shingles was a nice challenge, and extended eaves give much needed weather protection to claddings and joinery.

Project: Hartley Ave, Strowan

A classic Strowan bungalow complete with retro kitchen and bathroom, panelled ceilings, and not much flow. Extensive internal alterations created a new front entrance, a large open plan area for living and dining, with a stylish black and white kitchen.

Twin sets of bi-folds out onto the new hardwood deck gave the owners entertaining options. New dressed-paling fencing and electric gates gave street appeal and security, and Chris was very relaxed in front of the gas fire with his flat screen tele recessed above it.

Feature: Bathroom & Shower

Project: Roydvale Ave, Burnside

This typical 60's brick three bedroom home had been outgrown by a family with four kids. We added a double garage and three bedrooms ground floor, and one and a half bedrooms plus bathroom as a second storey.

Converted the existing garage to a sleepout, plastered over the bricks and the place was reborn! A challenging project with the family in residence while we pulled their house apart around them.

Added bedrooms on top as well.

Roomy bathroom and space lit using natural light.

Project: Voss Rd, Taitapu

Existing Sommerhill stone garage with sleepout gave the opportunity to convert this space into a two bedroom cottage for relations to retire into. A new double garage attached, with macrocarpa and zincalume claddings, gave a nice contrast to the stone.

New double-glazed joinery throughout, and new soffits and claddings will make these occupants warm and comfortable in their retirement.
